QUALITY ASSURANCE
The quality assurance of all aspects relating to the delivery of IT Certification Academy (ITCA) programmes, especially Teaching and Learning are important. As a result, quality assurance is a strategic priority, and has the attention and support of top management and governance structures.
ITCA policy on quality assurance outlines the strategic and operational processes and procedures that are in place to ensure that all our programmes are delivered in accordance with the provisions as set out in the respective policy documents of the organisation, and in line with accreditation parameters as determined and granted by the various Education and Training Quality Assurance Agencies (ETQA) especially the HEQC, SETAs, QCTO as well as relevant regulating authorities and certification bodies such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Certiport, SACE, and MICTSETA, Cisco, Services SETA, EDTP SETA and Pearsons VUE.
To this end, ITCA recognises the importance of ensuring that processes and procedures as outlined in various policy documents, manuals, and handbooks are adhered to. The institution has established a dedicated Quality Assurance and Audit Committee to focus on quality assurance issues across all campuses. This team is comprised of academic, external representatives and managerial staff members, who plays a key role in promoting, assuring, enhancing and reporting on good educational and management practice.
The team has been specifically established to focus on general quality assurance procedures within the academic and administrative departments of each site of delivery, and evaluates how procedures are maintained and enhanced, as well as assessing the extent to which the quality of the students and trainees experience is assured.
In addition, the quality assurance and audit team searches for evidence that the above is well understood by campuses and students. The team aims to carry out a minimum of one scheduled audit, and up to two unscheduled (unannounced) audits per academic year. Audit reports are made available to the respective
Programmes at ITCA are designed in accordance with specifications, procedures and processes as outlined in its Programme Design Policy. In determining the content of new programmes, the following considerations are taken into account:
- The Vision and Mission of the organisation
- The resources and infrastructure of the facilities (campuses) which will be offering the programmes
- The target audience in terms of their geographic location, preferred language, desired content, amongst other characteristics
- Other factors which may influence the design of the programme, as spelled out in the Programme Design Policy
The mechanism in place to ensure that the programme design processes operate as stipulated in the Programme Design Policy is the approval process of the Academic Board and Senate, and finally the extent to which ITCA meets the criteria identified by the regulating authorities.
ITCA subscribes to a principle of standardisation and consistency, but supports inter-campus collaboration and communication for the sake of local relevance and influence. Academics and consultants from all sites of delivery are encouraged to make contributions, recommendations, and engage in dialogue with senior management which fosters the development of learning material which is not only relevant at and appropriate for each site of delivery, but also intellectually credible.
The development of learning materials is developed in accordance with specifications, processes and procedures as stipulated in the Policy for the Development of Learning Materials. In determining the content of the learning material, the following considerations are taken into account:
- The context of the course in relation to the programme/course
- The facilities and infrastructure available for the delivery of a programme/course
- The resources available for the delivery of a programme/course
- The needs of the target market, industry and the community
The mechanism in place to ensure that the programme design processes operate as stipulated in the Policy for the Development of Learning Materials is the support and recommendations of academic staff, academics, Advisory Boards, followed by the approval of the Senior Management, the subsequent approval by the Academic Committee and the final approval by the Academic Board and Senate.
In summary, ITCA places a high premium on the quality and continuous improvement of its academic strategies, methodologies and processes. The quality of teaching and learning provision is of critical importance to the Academy, its students and shareholders.
Ensuring the quality of its provision on one campus is one factor; ensuring quality of provision across multiple sites of delivery is a further challenge and should therefore be managed both strategically and operationally. ITCA believes that the quality assurance mechanisms that have been designed, together with existing sound and proven successful policies and procedures, will assist it in providing good quality teaching and learning at all its sites of delivery.
